Our History & Mission

Our Mission

Mission Soapbox is dedicated to providing a fun and educational racing experience for youth in the Mission, British Columbia area. Our program builds character, teaches valuable STEM skills, and creates lifelong memories through the exciting sport of gravity racing.

We believe in fostering sportsmanship, perseverance, and teamwork while giving young racers the opportunity to design, build, and race their own soap box derby cars.

Our History

The Mission Soapbox Derby has a rich tradition in our community, bringing families together through racing for generations. Here are some key moments in our history:

2011

First Organized Race

The Mission Soapbox Derby held its first organized race down a hill in Mission, with 12 participants racing homemade cars.

2013

Official Affiliation

Mission Soapbox became officially affiliated with the All-American Soap Box Derby organization, adopting standardized rules and safety guidelines.

2015

First World Championship Competitor

Our local champion advanced to compete in the All-American Soap Box Derby World Championship in Akron, Ohio for the first time.

2018

New Race Location

The derby moved to its current location on Stave Lake Street, offering a longer and safer race course for participants.

2022

Record Participation

Our event saw record participation with over 50 racers competing across multiple divisions, making it one of the largest soap box derbies in British Columbia.
