Soap Box Derby

Official Race Rules

All participants must adhere to the following rules and regulations to ensure safety and fair competition. These rules are based on the All-American Soap Box Derby standards with local modifications.

General Requirements

• All racers must be between 7 and 15 years old on race day
• Each participant must have a signed waiver from parent/guardian
• All cars must pass technical inspection before racing
• Helmets must be worn at all times while on the track
• Closed-toe shoes and long pants are required

Car Specifications

Dimensions

• Maximum width: 36 inches
• Maximum length: 80 inches
• Maximum height: 36 inches
• Minimum weight (including driver): 200 lbs for Stock

Materials

• Frame must be constructed of wood or approved composite materials
• No metal frames or structural components
• Wheels must be official Soap Box Derby wheels (no modifications)
• Only approved axle and bearing systems permitted

Race Day Procedures

●All Times are approximate and subject to race day changes●

1. Check-in: All participants must check in by 8:00 AM
2. Driver Meeting: Mandatory meeting at 8:30 AM
3. Opening Ceremonies: Recognition of Native territories and opening ceremony festivies, starts at 8:45 AM
4. Racing Begins: First heat starts at 9:00 AM
5. Lunch Break: 12:00 PM
6. Resume Racing: Begin at 1:00 PM
7. Awards: Approximately 4:00 PM

Safety Regulations

• All cars must have a functional brake system
• Steering must have positive stops to prevent over-rotation
• No sharp edges or protruding hardware
• Seat belts are required for all divisions
• Cockpit must allow for quick exit in emergency situations

Conduct & Sportsmanship

• All participants must demonstrate good sportsmanship
• Verbal abuse or physical altercations will result in disqualification
• Parents/coaches must remain in designated areas during races
• Decisions by race officials are final
